These Traces That Remain
Synopsis
14 February 1942. Jacques, 15, is arrested by the Feldgendarmerie in Compiègne for possession of weapons. He was imprisoned in Compiègne, then Amiens and to the jail of « La Santé » in Paris. Nobody knew what happened to him. He simply vanished.
At the end of the war, Jacques did not come home. His mother, Emilia, has been looking unsuccessfully for his traces for over 30 years. She only learned that he had been deported to the Hinzert concentration camp in Germany in June 1942. In 2015, Olivier Fély-Biolet immersed himself in the national and international archives, in search of the fate of his cousin. He discovered his terrible journey and why no one could know what he had become. The story of his disappearance, like those of thousands of opponents of the Third Reich, reveals an unknown aspect of the terror regime put in place by Hitler, between 1941 and 1944: that of « prisoners NN », the « Nacht und Nebel » (Night and Fog).
