Synopsis
Crime, violence, immigrant gangs. These make for powerful headlines. But what happens when the newspapers get it wrong? When their stories no longer reflect reality, but start to shape it? In 2016, one of Australia’s newest migrant communities, the South Sudanese, was thrust into the spotlight. A youth brawl at a family festival in Melbourne created a furor of rage and indignation, and ignited a powder keg that had been building for years. All of a sudden, fear and resentment of African youth boiled over, creating a media-fueled storm that threatened the entire South Sudanese community. In the age of fake news, and fear of outsiders, what is the future of multicultural Australia?
